Sparrow keeps the Cadets chirping

Following a fine display at the Gloucestershire Junior Championships, the under 15 squad competed at Bridgwater on day one of the County Championships

The squad faced teams from Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire in an extremely intense day of battle on the tables.

Unfortunately the team were hampered by the loss of a girl player before the matches had started , meaning the the team effectively started each match two nil down.

However, in a superb show of strength and unity, the team fought hard and produced two thrilling win victories over Dorset (6-4) and Wiltshire (7-3) together with a thrilling (5-5) draw with Somerset, leaving the team in the top half of the eight team table with four matches to play.

Stars of the day were Sam McIvor (Stroud) and Charlotte Sparrow (Gloucester).

McIvor was undefeated on the day , including a fine win over ex National Champion Bertie Kelly from Somerset .

Charlotte came away with four individual victories, confirming her fine improvement. Her contribution was crucial to the teams success.

There was fine backup by County under 15 champion Benjamin Greve (Berkeley) with four wins and also Jonathan Ramsbotham (Stroud )with four wins on his debut.
