Another blistering display from TYC Retros cemented their
position at the top of Tamworth Table Tennis Division One. Andy Jackson,
Michael Bree and Jody Bevington were in sparkling form for Retros to win their
contest with Netherseal Cedar 10-0. In a fairly one-sided contest second place
Curdworth Pingers comfortably won through 10-0 away at Kingsbury Tornadoes
thanks to maximums from Rob Sheldon, Tony Stewart and Dawn Sagoo. Elsewhere
Netherseal A secured a fine 8-2 triumph over TYC Wanderers upsetting this
season’s form book. Trebles for Andrew Rose and Stephen Smith together with a
single from Danny Sullivan ensured the win for Netherseal. Andy Walker and Matt
Satchwell scored once in reply for Wanderers. A Mark Balant hat-trick was just
enough to see Lichfield Jets edge a narrow 6-4 home victory over Rugby Kings.
Jack Gillespie scored twice in support with Harry Emberson adding a single. In
response Johnathan Pilling won two of his matches for Kings and secured the
doubles in five with Dean Snowden. Dean also chipped in with a single.
In Division Two top side Spital Daredevils slipped to their
first reversal of the season going down 6-4 at home to Jokers A. Martin Tallis
inflicted the damage with a well-crafted treble for Jokers. Martin went on to
win the doubles in four with Alastair Tallis. Alastair and David Tucker each
won a singles match. Alan Baker bagged a brace for the Daredevils with Stuart
Spalding and Claire Baker each netting one. Netherseal Oak made short work of
Lichfield Musketeers 10-0 thanks to maximums from Andy Pearce, Mike Harker and
Graham Kettle. Both Neil Lehane and Morgan Sykes were on target for Lichfield
Knaves winning all their matches for Knaves in their 7-3 away win over
Curdworth Pongers. Daniel Greathead contributed the seventh point. Rich Grove
and Pete Bromley salvaged a point each for Pongers and combined to take the
doubles in five. Two player Rugby Oddballs went down 8-2 away to Jokers B.
Chris Latham and Richard Howes remained unbeaten on the night for Jokers.
Singles from Dave Storr and Kevin Wright ensured Oddballs had something to show
for their night’s work.
In Division Three leaders Netherseal Ash won a challenging
home encounter with Lichfield Barons 6-4. Graham Clarke notched up three for
Ash and took the doubles with George Parry in four. George also bagged a brace.
Barbara Jones scored twice in response for Barons with John Henson and Karl
Turner claiming singles wins for the visitors. A treble from man-of-the-match
Steven Thomas was not enough to prevent his side Lichfield Rockets going down
6-4 at home to Kingsbury Cruisers. Zoran Djurkovic contributed the fourth point
for the Rockets. Cruisers’ points came courtesy of pairs from Steve Gardener
and Isobel Morrell. Steve also combined with John Howell to take the doubles in
three. John later bagged a single. John Brookes was star performer for Spital
Mondays in his team’s narrow 6-4 home triumph over TYC Lambs. Paul Watkins was
also in good form for Mondays scoring twice. John and Paul went on to take the
doubles in five. James Shaw played well for the Lambs scoring twice. Rich Elson
and Rob Shaw contributed further singles for Lambs.
