Week Two and the season is already in full swing.
In Division One, Curdworth Wheelers Pingers comfortably beat Tamworth Youth Club Wanderers 9-1. Rob Rowson and Rob Sheldon were undefeated for Pingers, while Dawn Sagoo scored a brace, beaten in five games by Steve Smith, who retained a point for Wanderers. Sutton Coldfield Panthers won 7-3 when they visited TYC Retros. Trevor Davies scored a hat-trick of matches, while Alan Caffery won two out of three. Young Michael Bree performed well for Retros, taking two points.
In Division Two, Lichfield Knaves beat Netherseal Oak 6-4 in a closely-fought match. Mike Harker and Brian Hagger played well for Oak, winning two matches each, but the star of the match was Lichfield’s Dave Russell, who beat Harker and Hagger, who he has never beaten before, to emerge unbeaten.
In Division Three, Rugby Oddballs beat TYC Lambs 9-1. Dave Storr and Keith Pratt could not be beaten on the night, while Kevin Wright won two, beaten by a good performance from Matt Thompson. There was a close match when Curdworth Wheelers Pongers met Kingsbury Cruisers, resulting in a 5-5 stalemate. Pete Bromley won all of his matches for Pongers, supported by singles from Anthony Urion and Rob Bromley. Cruisers saw a brace from Steve Gardener and singles from Issy Morrell and Ron Simpson to level the score. The Kingsbury Crowns side of John Lowe, Tom Haines and Andy Brown were too strong for the young Burntwood team and convincingly won 10-0.
