Match Report

It’s Halloween and we at West CAC were dreading what monsters Backspin C would send us and our fears were justified when in walked Luke Brown, a very tall man, Graham Burton, an old foe of mine from The Beacon of Light, and Kenneth Greatbatch who is a blast from the past, facing them were the in-form Michael Hepworth, Alan Whitwham, just been promoted to number 2 in the team, and the ever graceful Howard Forster.

The match started with a surprise 5 game win for Graham against Michael, so well played, then Howard lost in 4 ends to a very good Luke, and then the fighter not the quitter Alan lost in 3 ends to Ken, but only after the 2nd end went to 22-20.   Graham continued his fine form when he defeated Howard, and it wasn’t till the 6th set before West got on the score card when Michael overcame Ken in 3 ends. The last 3 sets all went to 5 ends which Backspin won 2 and the match of the night was the 2 number ones Luke and Michael played some great attacking shots and good defending, but Luke finally won 12-10 in last end, what a match to watch. My sister was born on Halloween and on that day, she is allowed to put a curse on someone, and it turned out it was Graham in his match against Alan when he lost in the 5th 11-2 so bad luck, he could have been Player of the Match and my thanks goes to my sister for helping me win my 1st game this season.

The Player of the Match was Luke, who has the wingspan of a Jumbo Jet, So well played Luke.
