Press Report 05-05-25
Mount Table Tennis Club have swept away all before them in the top two divisions of the Sunderland League claiming both titles.
In the first division, Mount True Roof, with a 50 point winning margin, took their second successive championship with 23 wins from 24 played. Neil Herrington, Andrew Wilkinson,Jamie Dent and Anthony Ainley played the bulk of their matches supported by Oliver Ho, Martin Schapira, Leo Conn and Dan Foster. Northumbria County player and team captain Ainley was meticulous in his team selection throughout the campaign and when asked what it meant to the Gateshead side to take successive titles said “it’s an honour to be captain and a magnificent achievement to win two successive league titles. My particular thanks go to Lynne Herrington, our sponsor, and to our players who have supported me all season - we will now be trying for the hat trick.” Anthony went on to thank his fellow division one team captains for their flexibility surrounding certain fixture shifts and to the League Executive for their continued support.

It was a tighter race the title for the division two Mount team of Charlie Mouzon, Dan Foster, Scott and Sam Nicholson supported by John Henderson, Terry Kwong and Steven Dickinson. Unbeaten Durham University pushed the Champions all the way finishing just 6 points behind. The student’s team of Ben McHoul, Chak Hei Timothy Chan, Felix and Eliot Gregory and Rowan Jones will compete alongside them in the top flight next term.

Brandon Jets will be crowned division three champions alongside the two Mount sides at the League presentation evening on the 13th June at the Queen Vic in Roker (7pm start tickets from Dave Bissett available soon). The Jets young side of Jude Warner, Sam Dale, Max Hancock supported by Sophie Dodds, William Halladay and Zac Bhatti were closely chased down by Backspin C’s Alex Nicholl, Debbie Irwin, Chloe Irwin-Chambers and Shirley Robson who finished only 7 points behind.
