Stratford Herald Week Beginning October 30th

Last season’s top three teams each met one of the bottom trio with all demonstrating their ability by inflicting the whitewash. The two joint title holders secured their victories in the most emphatic style without conceding a single set.

Shottery A’s Gary Stewart, Stephen Foster and Graham Poole were on form to overcome Veterans, despite the latter being made to work hard by Peter Rodwell.

It was also one-way traffic for the Colebridge Pasties team of Mike Evetts, Mike Credland and Jason Rainey when they played host to Ashorne.

In the opening game of their fixture FISSC’s Malcolm Smith took an early lead against Tony Remes before the Shottery B player staged a successful recovery. Although there were several close encounters, Remes and his team-mates Tim Fell and Gareth Hepworth registered perfect performances as the farmers succumbed to a clean sweep for the third time this campaign.

In contrast when Blazing Paddles entertained Tanworth Taipans the outcome of the match wasn’t determined until the final game. Ben Rycroft-Stanley maintained his impressive start to the season for the visitors by recording a treble without reply. He was well supported by Denis Kynaston who added a brace despite being taken to a decider by Dave Fordham. Nello Mauri produced two wins for Paddles, with Fordham and Wilf Chan also getting on the card. The final result rested on the concluding doubles where Rycroft-Stanley and Kynaston took the honours to give Taipans a 6-4 win.

JLM Falcons handed Stratford league debuts to two players when they took on Henley A. Jack Davis marked the occasion with a treble and Jonny Lyons looked set to achieve a similar result when, with two wins already secured, he took a two-set lead against Geoff Shephard. However the visitors’ captain then called upon his experience to claim the game in the decider. With Kevin Taylor also untroubled the Falcons finished 9-1 to the good to consolidate their position as early league leaders.
