Report Week 17

n a closely fought match where there was never more than 1 game between the teams, West Warwicks & Henley A drew 5-5. Man of the match Andy Rowland secured a treble for the hosts with Alison Stewart also getting on the card, eventually combining with Rowland to take the doubles, in a tight 5 set match, against Don McAdam and Geoff Shepherd in the last game of the evening, to earn the draw. For Henley A, Peter Quince recorded a victory with braces from both McAdam & Shepherd contributed to a nail biting result in this close match.

Blazing Paddles recorded a 7-3 victory over FISSC in a tough encounter at Alderminster with Nello Mauri unbeaten while both Dave Fordham and the improving newcomer, Harry Azima, recording braces. For the visitors, Mark Kingham & Mark Jones each got on the card & then combined to take the doubles in another of the 5 games to go the distance.

In a competitive match, Henley A were on the wrong end of a whitewash against Shottery A. However, the score line did not reflect the closeness of some of the games with Graham Poole just coming out on top in two matches, from deuce in the fifth against Robert McCluskey and Dave Milton. Two other games went to 4 sets but Gary Stewart & Stephen Foster were mainly untroubled.

The Taipans took on the FISSC Vets at Tanworth in another match decided in the final game of the night with Brian Marston & George Mudie defeating Mike Saunders & Stuart Wilson to secure a 6-4 win. For The Taipans, Saunders & Wilson both registered braces with Mudie & Mark Kingham achieving the same for the visitors.

When Shottery B entertained Shottery C,  the latter were looking to improve on their early season 9-1 loss. Rob Poole notched a brace for the C side but could not get close to Awais Muhammed who proved he is Shottery B’s star player, emphasised by the fact that he didn’t lose a single set during the evening. Gareth Hepworth & Tim Fell won two games each for the B side with Fell only narrowly coming out on top in a close game against Kevin Taylor. Taylor & Poole combined to take the doubles against Muhammed & Hepworth for Shottery C’s only other victory in a close 5 set game resulting in Shottery B finishing as 7-3 victors.
