Hepworth hegemony

A match between the second and third placed teams in the Stratford League last Winter was always destined to be a closely fought affair , and so it proved at the Alderminster HQ of Shottery TTC on Wednesday evening. ( October 15th )

Tim Fell , fresh from his prodigious performance in the Birmingham League Division One on Tuesday evening , was unlucky not to trouble the scorer on this occasion. He was unfortunate in being on the wrong end of two five set defeats , by both Geoff Shepherd and Don Mcadam. His defeat against Mike Evetts was more straightforward , and Evetts has had much the better of it during their recent meetings.

Man of the match was rightly Gareth Hepworth , who is perhaps battle hardened and " match tight " following his earlier start to the Winter season in the Leamington league. He dropped only one set all evening , against Evetts , who could not contain his consistent accuracy and frequent switching.

Evetts won two , as did his captain , Geoff Shephard , both beating Tim Fell and Dave Milton , who is making a welcome return to Stratford league table tennis.

Henleys other success was Macadams over Fell, which was enough to give them a draw, the Shottery doubles pairing of Hepworth and Milton proving too strong for the travelling villagers.

A friendly match , played in a good spirit , and , as any match hosted by Tim Fell , well provided for with a well appointed selection of luxuriously coated chocolate wafer biscuits.
