Henley 'A', still without their talisman Mike Evetts , entertained FISCC WW 'A' who welcomed back Andy Rowland for only his 2nd appearance of the season.
FISSC quickly raced into a 3 -0 lead before Stuart Ayres stopped the rot with a 5 set win over Alison Stewart. This was the best match of the evening,a fascinating encounter between players with very contrasting styles, and could have gone either way.Ayres' excellent defensive retrieving in the final set eventually overcame Stewart's powerful attacking play.
Henley's only other success on the night was Geoff Shepherd's straight set win over Jim Ferguson with Rowland being the only undefeated player on the night .
FISCC won a good natured contest 8-2 with much high standard table tennis in evidence.In the doubles Rowland and Stewart ,spotting too late that time had unexpectedly moved on went on an all out assault,conceding only 7 points in their victory,in what very sadly proved an ultimately futile attempt to make last orders.
