The Stockton & District Table Tennis League got off to an exciting start this week with 3 teams starting with 10-0 victories. In the First division, last year’s champions Eaglescliffe, in order to add to the ever increasing strength of the league, split their squad up , forming two teams and adding new players. The B team recorded a convincing win over Northfield Pingers with Danny Welsh being the star man for Eaglescliffe, however credible performances from Ian Plumber & Tony Langley could have caused upsets. Elsewhere Northfield Advanced also had a straightforward 10-0 win over Hartlepool Westbourne with only Phil Webster & Keith Robertson offering any resistance. Northfield Meercats produced a fine win over Eaglescliffe A with Mick Young & Kevin Linsey both winning 2, however Man of the Match was Nick Corking with an excellent nights work winning his 3 games in fine fashion for Eaglescliffe.
In division 2 early pace setters were Hartlepool Westbourne B with a resounding 10-0 win over Northfield Real Sosobad with Jason Lloyd standing out. Hot on their heels are Wanderers Peoples Centre, their 7-3 win was a tight affair with a number of games going to 4 or 5 ends, notably Steve Richardson’s 11-9 win in the 5thagainst Graeme Wilson being pivotal.
