General Rules
  • These rules shall apply to all the League cup competitions – Guardian Cup, Marylands Cup and Moulton Shield.
  • The Competition Secretary as elected at the League’s A.G.M. will administer all competitions and all communications must be directed to him/her.  The decision of the Competition Secretary shall be final unless relevant information becomes available. 
  • All competitions shall be played in accordance with E.T.T.A. laws together with the League’s rules for scoring of cup matches. 
  • Official score sheets will be sent to the home team’s secretary.  Both captains must sign the score sheet for a valid result.  All score sheets must be sent to the Match Secretary.  They should be postmarked, delivered or handed in at the Sports Hall Desk within 24 hours of completion of the match.  See rule 6. 
  • If no score sheet is received by the closing date, the match will be awarded to the away team unless representation is made at the next monthly meeting. 
  • The finals of the competitions are to be played on a suitable table on a stipulated date as declared by the committee.
  • Service shall change at each 5 points.

  Guardian Cup – handicap competition

  • Handicaps will be determined by the Competition Secretary based on current performances and averages for each registered player.  The team handicap is disclosed at the end of the match.
  • Team composition should be notified to the Competition Secretary at least 24 hours before the match to assist with accurate handicapping.
  • All teams will be entered into the first round draw and byes or play-offs if appropriate will be included.
  • Each match will consist of one end up to 33 points – no deuce play – first player to 33 points is the winner.  Change ends when the first player reaches 16 points.
  • In the event of a draw, the teams will play one doubles match, using the same players as played in the previous matches, to 33 points, the hidden handicap of which will have to be obtained from the Competition Secretary after the end of that doubles match.

MarylandsCup – handicap competition

  • The handicap for each round of the competition will be determined by the Competition Secretary calculated on an individual basis assessing current performance and averages.
  • Each match will consist of four singles and one doubles games as detailed on the score sheet.
  • Games will consist of the best of three ends to 31 points – no deuce play.  Each player will commence with his/her handicap at the start of each game.
  • Where a players handicap exceeds 25 points his/her handicap shall be reduced to 25 points and his/her opponents handicap shall be reduced by the same amount to maintain the differential.

Moulton Shield – no handicap

  • All teams will be entered into the first round draw and byes or play-offs if appropriate will be included.
  • Each match will consist of four singles and one doubles games as detailed on score sheet.
  • Games will consist of the best of three ends up to 21 points (normal deuce rules to apply).  The team winning the most games will be the winner.
