2017-18 Week 32 Report

Whatever the rest of the season held for the Spalding and District League it can at least be said it ended with a bang.

Early in the evening Division 1’s Mine’s a Pint and 2’s Hurricane Brothers had concluded their Guardian Cup semi-final.

The first game had gone to the Pinters 33-21 and Andy Hay and Jeremy Hitcham continued in similar vein, taking the other three games 33-30, 33-19 and 33-29 for a lead of 132-99.

When the handicap envelope was opened, Hurricane Brothers received another 11 points leaving them trailing by 22.

The final between the Pinters and Division 1’s Underdogs was more evenly balanced.

Hitcham took the first against Phil Knowles 33-25 before Dylan Taylor responded with a 33-28 win over Hay.

Hay then came from behind to defeat Knowles 33-20 in the third game.

Finally Taylor fought back from behind against Hitcham twice before losing out 33-27.

The handicap went in favour of Underdogs to the tune of an additional 23 points which left them winners by 128-127.

On a busy night Pinters also concluded their league programme with a match against Outsiders.

Adrian Dinvlescu was on top form taking his two singles for Outsiders in three ends each.

Keith Davey found life more difficult picking up the second singles in four before the two paired up in the doubles to win in five, coming from behind.

The final singles also went to five giving Hitcham his team’s only point.

A late result from the previous week saw JDM defeating Outsiders by the same score, winning all four singles but defaulting the doubles.

JDM played Aches & Pains this time round, dropping the first end, but then winning the next fifteen to take the match 5 – 0.

That concludes the season and the updated tables show Jokers at the top, but the committee have to determine what to do about unfinished matches in the League and outstanding cup matches.

In the meantime four tables only will be available for play from 8pm to 10pm on June 15th and 22nd, and July 5th and 12th, with 6 available on July 19th at a reduced cost of £3 pp.

Full access from 7pm to 10pm should resume on all tables at the usual price of £4pp from July 26th.
