2018-19 Week 2 Report

A new member coming in to the Spalding and District Table Tennis League means that there are now 7 teams in Division 2.

As a consequence one of the byes from Round 1 of the Moulton Shield now had a match.

The luck of the draw paired Team TJ, the new team, and Deeping Lads, with three newcomers between them.

The junior pairing of Tommy McGuire and Jack Sawyer settled quickest to competitive play and came out winners in straight ends.

Nets n Edges faced another new team, Assassins, though one of the pair had played in the Boston League previously.

However that was not recent and rustiness and experience were too much to overcome the Netters who ran out 5 – 0.

Round 2 now reads: Outsiders v Moulton SE, Underdogs v TNC, South Holland v Nets n Edges, Mine’s a Pint v Team TJ; matches to be played on or before 23rd October.

South Holland brought forward their tie with Nets n Edges to cover for work commitments.

Holland’s experience proved too much for the Netters and at the end of the evening they were in a winning position at 4 – 0.

Holland had earlier continued their week 1 match against Jokers, started last week.

Piotr Olstowska picked up a point in one singles game, and then Jean White and John Gilbert took the doubles in the fifth end to lead 3 – 1.

Mine’s a Pint and Outsiders brought forward their Division 1 match from October 9th.

Garry Wilkinson won the first game, giving Outsiders the lead, which team mate Joe Beadle added to.

The Pinters pulled one back with the doubles before Wilkinson produced a second win, which, despite Jeremy Hitcham’s win in the final singles, meant Outsiders took the match 3 – 2.

JDM started their week 1 match with Underdogs, but with Kelvin Preville leading the way with a singles win and the doubles, the latter lead 2 – 1.

Week 1 of the League programme tonight (Tuesday) sees JDM v Underdogs (to be completed), Jokers v South Holland (to be completed), and Moulton SE v Nets n Edges.

In Division 2 Rusty Nails face Team TJ, Hit n Hope meet Hurricane Bros, and Deeping Lads play Assassins.

Anyone wishing to try our sport will be most welcome at the High School Sports Hall on a Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 at £4 for the evening.
