On a busy night for the Spalding and District League 11 matches were played, though not all to a finish.
Division 1 leaders Jokers could only field one player against South Holland but at the end they were level at 1 – 1, Guntars Briedes scoring for Jokers and John Gilbert for Holland.
Holland also caught up on a match against Mine’s a Pint from the previous week.
Jean White and Gilbert took all five games, though Jeremy Hitcham once again proved difficult to get past, going down in the fifth.
Second placed Moulton S E also doubled up, completing their singles against Underdogs before facing JDM.
Starting 2 – 0 up they were unable to handle Kelvin Preville, losing both singles in straight ends.
The JDM match was much tighter despite the result.
Bald figures show a 5 – 0 victory to Moulton, but only the first singles and the doubles ended in three.
Even then every game had at least one deuce end, and Steven Appleby v Phil Chandler had three in the five ends.
Underdogs then faced Nets n Edges in their scheduled match.
Preville again took two points but the Edgers won the other singles, the doubles deciding the tie in Underdogs favour.
Fourth placed Outsiders drop two places after sharing the points with Mine’s a Pint.
Keith Davey and Hitcham scored, their own game going to five ends, the fifth ending in an unprecedented 21-23!
Bladerunners moved up with a victory over Aches and Pains, Dave and James Gibson taking all the points.
In Division 2 the leaders were unavailable but stay ahead of 200 up who brought forward a match with Castle Sports.
With one singles to play the honours are even in a match that took 18 ends to get through the four games played.
Hurricane Brothers moved closer with a 5 – 0 over MatDuf whose junior newcomers may be struggling for points, but are nevertheless noticeably improving.
This was borne out in their delayed Marylands Cup match with Bladerunners.
Given the help of a handicap they took two of the four games played and those they lost went to the wire.
Also in the Marylands Mine’s a Pint and Castle Sports fought out a tight round 1 match.
Although the Pinters won the first it was close with the balance in Castle’s favour most of the time, running out winners 3 -2.
The amended draw for round 2 tonight is Hurricane Brothers v Nets n Edges; Underdogs/Outsiders v Pottermus Clarets/Jokers; 200up v Castle Sports; Bladerunners/MatDuf v Aches & Pains.
