Only two games but a couple of good battles in the Premier division this week and none closer than the Hockley A 5-4 win over Rayleigh Mill. It was the third week in a row where a Mill player had gone unbeaten but come out on the losing side. This time it was Colin Chatfield with the three wins over Matt Stringer, Dan Patynski and Dave Colwill. But two wins each for Stringer and Colwill and a win for Patynski over Steve Maltby meant Hockley taking the overall win.

It was a busy week for Chris Ballard as he turned out twice in the Premier Division of the Southend & District Table Tennis League. On Monday he contributed two wins for Hullbridge B v Brand Identity A but it wasn’t enough to help his team to the win as a Richard Jackman hattrick and a win a piece for Adam Jackman and David Jacob saw Brand Identity over the line by the smallest of margins 5-4. Arron Chandler with the other two wins for Hullbridge.

There were three matches in the Premier Division this week and we start with a convincing win for league leaders Thorpe Bay A over Brand Identity A. John Poysden and Mark Stones were unbeaten for Thorpe Bay ably supported by Paul Sayer who chipped in with two wins. A good win for Simon Jacob over Sayer preventing the whitewash and giving us an 8-1 scoreline

It was great to see competitive table tennis return to the Southend & District Table Tennis League this week after the break enforced on us by the pandemic. A great chance for players to see where their skills were at as well as catching up with teammates they haven’t seen for some time.
