 SDTTL Season 2022-3 Reports: Week 8
Premier Division Rawreth A continued their relentless assault on the Premier Division title this season with an impressive 8-1 win over an injury ravaged Rayleigh Mill squad, who were only able to turn out two players. Such is the strength in depth of the Rawreth A squad that they were able to field the Essex No. 1 Vets in the Men’s and Ladies in the shape of Matt Spero and Wanda Litynska-Sydorenko and with a 3rd player of Zayd Mauthoor, the Millers didn’t have much hope. Duncan Taylor was able to secure a consolation win against Mauthoor and looked on track to secure a second win at 2-0 up against Sydorenko. But it wasn’t to be as Wanda turned the tables and ran out 11-8 in the 5th game. Elsewhere two teams, who were only able to field two players, came up against each other, when Irons A played Rawreth C. Babul McLeod with two wins for Rawreth over Richard Brown and Dave Bowles and Eric Green picked up a win over Bowles. Richard Brown was involved in two tight 5 set finishes for his 1 win and 1 defeat. In the final game this week, an Andy Cunningham hattrick was not enough to secure a win for Hockley A over Brand Identity A. Cunningham with wins over Adam Jackman, David Jacob and Richard Jackman and a single win for Joerg Poeschus not enough to match the Brand Identity effort, which saw a brace a piece for Richard Jackman and David Jacob and a win which clinched the 5-4 victory for Adam Jackman. Congratulations to Matt Spero & Wanda Syderenko for winning the Midland Masters Mixed Doubles Trophy. We wish them and all the Southend players playing in the Eastern Masters, at Norwich this weekend, the Very Best of Luck. Duncan Taylor DRS Premier Division Division 1 With Rawreth D only able to find two players, their match away to Lentern was a pretty one-sided affair. Whilst their George Davis and Adam Deadman put up a strong showing, Lentern ran out comfortable 8-1 winners, thanks to hat tricks from Gus Heath and Paul Sims. Wayne Farmer won the other two. Two of Adam’s matches went to five sets - his last saw him narrowly overcome Wayne to take his side’s consolation point. Hockley B got back to winning ways with a 6-3 away win at Mapledene. David Colwill was POM with a maximum, ably supported with another hat trick from Daniel Patynski. Each of the home team (of Steve Woodley, Andy Seaman and Dawn Baldry) won one. Rawreth E went one better, winning 7-2 at Canvey A. Mike Hayes’ maximum made him POM, with teammates Garry Hartgrove and Colin Barham both gaining two. Ray Wilson was responsible for both Canvey’s successes. 7-2 was also the score for Brand Identity B as they entertained Stanford Le Hope A. Barrie Delf’s treble gave him the POM prize. Adam Jackman and Michael Grout both chipped in with two wins apiece. Peter Weatherall and Ian Sangster each took single victories for the visitors. Closest match of the week was that between Invicta A and their tenants Hadleigh Forum B. Invicta came out on top 5-4 thanks to an impressive hat trick from Lee Marson. Tony Ayliffe and Steve Marr added the two other victories for Invicta. Michael Tappenden and Tony Jacks each got two wins for Forum. David Barnes Drs Div 1 Division 2 Only two matches to report on again this week and whilst there was perhaps no surprise in Wakering’s win against Selbourne, the youngsters of Hullbridge A provided something of an upset by beating second placed Hadleigh Forum 7-2. Hullbridge A started their first season in the league with four successive defeats but got their first win last week and have now followed that up with another impressive performance. The Hadleigh Forum team of Tony Mace, Satwant Gill and David Thomas had made a good start to the Season, but found themselves well beaten by their young opponents Jack Riley, Evie Knaapen and Alex Bowden. Evie took the POTM award just dropping one set all night, whilst Jack was just behind her also winning all three although he was taken to five sets by David Thomas. Alex got the other point winning 11-9 in the fifth set against Tony. Whilst Hullbridge A stay in eighth spot in the league, form like this will soon start them climbing the table. Wakering’s 9-0 eclipse of Selbourne has moved them above Hadleigh Forum and into second place in the division four points behind Runnymede. Stewart Mills and Zac and Paul England powered their way past the Selbourne team of Ross Letham, Richard Reibold and Jenne Siebolt losing just three sets all night. Two of those were in the five-set match between Stewart and Jenne with Stewart coming back from 2-1 down to win 11/7 in the fifth. Player of the Week – Evie Knaapen Team of the Week – Hullbridge A Paul Strutt Drs Div 2 Division 3 There were maximums from Mike Keeble and Steve Lennox plus a brace from David Barnes in Invicta B’s 8-1 victory over Hadleigh Forum D. Forum have introduced several new players to our League this season and it was one of the newbies, Oscar (Oz) Blackwell, who scored their only point on the night with a notable, straight sets win over the experienced David Barnes. Hockley E and Canvey C fought out an extremely close match this week. Canvey led 3-0 and 4-2 only for Hockley to level at 4-4 and ensure that the match went to the final end. Here, Ellis Marley and Trevor Hayes were level at 2 sets all going into the decider. Ellis held the upper hand at 7-3 but Trevor fought back to the take the game 11-8 and secure the win for Canvey. This match was also notable in that all 6 players scored points for their teams. Trisha Winter and, player of the match, Keith Baxter both recorded hat-tricks for Invicta C in a 6-3 win away at Megazone. No luck on the night though for their teammate, David Youngman. For Megazone, there was a single win each for Joe Bennett, Mike Webb and Steve McQuillan. No result has yet been received for the match between Rawreth G and Hullbridge B. Dave Woolmer Drs Div 3 |
