WINTER LEAGUE 15-16 WEEK 13 REPORT - MIDSEASON REPORT

Mid-Season Report  &  Week 13, Week commencing 7th December 2015

Premier Division – DRS – Duncan Taylor         Duncan.Taylor@essex.gov.uk

Week 13    It's been an exciting first half of the season in the Premier Division this year with more strength in depth throughout the Division meaning more unpredictable results each week. It looks like the winners will come from early pacesetters Rawreth A led by the unbeaten Tony Halling, Thorpe Bay A or Hullbridge A. The teams below these three including Castle Point, Rayleigh Mill and Hullbridge B all boast players who on their day can beat anyone and this is making for a great season. The players turning out each week for all these teams means that the Southend must be one of, if not the strongest Premier Division in Essex.  At the other end of the table it looks like it will be a long season for Lentern B and Rawreth C as they struggle to win enough points to maintain their Premier Division status. Lentern A are also struggling near the bottom of the table as we approach the year end but with games in hand, and if they can get their best team out more, they should certainly have enough to get out of trouble    Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year    Duncan

Week 13    Halfway through the season and leading into the Xmas break and the Division 1 Title seems to be wide open with 4 teams in the running.  Hullbridge C took over again at the top with a 7-2 win over Warehouse B. Pete Saunders was the mainstay with 3 points ably supported by Andy Seaman and Lin Attridge with two each, but both unable to overcome Andrew Paton for the Warehouse team.  Hockley A are now a point behind after a close 5-4 win over Invicta A. Hockley pulled into a 4-0 lead in the match before Invicta pulled 3 back in a match that seesawed one way and another. In the end the experience of Tim Pang came through as he remained undefeated with Steve Marr for the Invicta team putting up most resistance with two.  Customs A are then a further three points back and were able to win 7-2 over Lentern C thanks again to an unbeaten night from Roy Thomas and two each for Dale Gutteridge and Dave Morgan,  Mike Grout picking up the two for Lentern.  On level points but with a game in hand, the final team in contention, Rawreth E, saw their game postponed this week as Canvey were unable to raise a team.  At the other end of the table, the two promoted teams from last year met and Runnymede pulled of a 5-4 win over Hockley B to leave them adrift at the bottom despite only having two players. Dmitry Kisil with 3 and Tony Coeshall with two scored the winning points for Runnymede, whilst Keith Abbott with two for Hockley scored the only victory on the night.  In a match where no-one was unbeaten, Hadleigh Forum C beat Lentern D 6-3. All the Forum team consisting of Dave Thomas, Graham Farmer and Mark Everard scored two, as did Peter Lucraft for the Lentern team.  Finally, Hadleigh Forum B had a 9-0 win over Lentern E, the winning team consisting of Dave Woolmer, Mick Tappenden and Tony Jacks. Wayne Farmer came closest to a win with a close 5 setter against Mick Tappenden (12-10 11-13 12-10 9-11 11-8)    Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year    Barrie

Week 13    Week 13

At the half way point in the season, leaders Hullbridge D extended the margin at the top, thanks to an 8 – 1 ‘away’ win when playing their E team. Daniel Payne and Matt Rolfe were both unbeaten.  Castle Point B lost momentum together with their match at Rawreth G. Despite a hat trick from Keith Neville, the home side shaved it 5 – 4 with two each from James McDowell and Andy Deadman.  Canvey B had a comfortable 8 – 1 home win over Warehouse D. Tony Westwell and Talbot Wiseman each recorded maximums, whilst Tamas Mezo saved the visitors’ blushes.  Hockey C were too strong for home side Castle Point C, recording a 9 – 0 away victory. Josh Copeland, Paul Henlen and Stuart Adshead all recorded maximums.  With only two players, Rawreth F were always going to struggle at RESSC. Jan Thorpe saved their embarrassment with a single win in an 8 – 1 drubbing. However, both Ron Coutts and Sarah Mapes won all three of their games for the home team.  A hat trick from Stewart Mills contributed immensely to Wakering’s 6 – 3 home win over Basildon Hospital. Nigel Cook assisted with two wins; and Mike Smith got two for the away side.  Finally, a special mention for young Harry Small, who was man of the match in Warehouse C’s 6 – 3 home victory over Canvey C. Archie Blackburn won two rubbers for the islanders    Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year    David

Division 3               DRS Paul Strutt                   paulstrut@tiscali.co.uk

Week 13    With the halfway point in the Season approaching, Division 3 is precariously balanced in the Promotion race. The top 2 teams met this week, with Hullbridge G just edging out Invicta B 5-4, Tony Molisso the star of the Match with a hat trick and an excellent win over John Golding. 3rd place Hullbridge F had a blank week, but 4th place Canvey D were in action and they thumped Warehouse E 8-1 with Harry Keys and Rob McDonald both claiming hat tricks. In the other match in this Division, juniors Rawreth H had their best win of the Season with an 8-1 win over Hockley E, Ryan Williams and Charles Livermore both winning their 3 games. This Division is very close with any of 4 teams in with a chance of the Title: Canvey D, Hullbridge F & G Teams and Invicta D. It should be an exciting 2nd half    Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year    Paul

Leading Positions:-  Hullbridge G   P11    Points 70

                                 Invicta B           P10    Points 69
