WL 14-15 WEEK 27 REPORT
Week Commencing 23rd March 2015

Premier Division - DRS Duncan Taylor        duncan.taylor@essexcc.gov.uk

Minda Sinkus put in a man of the match performance to help Rayleigh Mill take the spoils against Runnymede A.  A hat-trick from the Rayleigh man, along with two Duncan Taylor wins, was enough for the Millers to take the game 5-4. Elsewhere Castle Point’s Barrie Delf managed to save a whitewash against Thorpe Bay A with a great win against Alex Abbott; Castle Point going down 8-1 to the ‘Bay’.  New Basildon Men’s Singles Champion Kevin Read was in merciless form as he put Warehouse A to the sword this week. Backed up by Charles Sweeney and Lee Prentice Read he led the league leaders to an 8-1 win with Kim Shead picking up the consolation with a good win over Lee Prentice.  In the final game this week it looked at first as if Hullbridge C were only going to field two players but a hasty phone call and Bill Smith duly arrived and then turned in the evenings performance overcoming a 0-2 deficit to beat Rawreth B’s Babul McLeod 3-2. Hullbridge C's other point came from a Dick Wyman win over Dave Calleja. Dick unlucky in his other two matches going down in the 5th end in both    Duncan

Division 1 - DRS - Barrie Delf                        bdelf@castlepoint.gov.uk

In the match of the week, 1st met 3rd in the tables and it was Lentern B who ended up 5-4 winners over Hadleigh Forum B to enforce their number one spot. Lentern did not have it all their own way, and the normal reliable Gus Heath was beaten twice, although he is still suffering with his knees. It was left to quickfire ‘postie’ Paul Churn to deliver the goods and end up with an unbeaten record on the night, although two of his matches did go to 5 sets including the final match of the night (tied at 4-4) where he was 2-1 down. Dave Woolmer with two and Mick Tappenden with two scored the points for the Forum team, with the luckless Tony Jacks ended up pointless in a match for the first time this season in Division 1, including the deciding final game.  Rawreth E have leap-frogged over Forum and Customs into second and had a good 5-4 win over Canvey A this week in a very open match. However with no-one unbeaten on the night and everyone contributing at least one point, it was left with John Blackman and Colin Clements with two each for Rawreth. Ray Wilson scored two for the visitors but lost the third to Justin Jeffery to give the home team the victory. Customs were without a game this week but have games in hand on those above them.  Lentern C moved up the table thanks to a 9-0 win over Hullbridge D. Mike Grout, Les Tayler and Malcolm Henstock were all too hot to handle for Jo Hills and Father and son duo, Keith and Sam Fullick. This does leave Hullbridge second from bottom and in a precarious position. Lentern E upset the table positions against Hockley A with a spirited 6-3 win. Brian Spencer and an inspired Wayne Farmer contributing three each for the home side, with all the Hockley players managing one apiece.  The final match this week saw a return to the Hadleigh Forum C team for Russell Bright and his customary 3 points. This was enough to give them the edge in a close 5-4 victory over Lentern D, who had Terry Jasper to thank for two wins, everyone else contributing one point. There are some delayed/disrupted reports still to come due to the Invicta venue refurbishments    Barrie

Division 2 - DRS - David Barnes                    dbarnes89@btinternet.com

Runnymede take the bragging rights after winning a close table-top match against leaders Hockley B 5 – 4. Phil Digby was the home team’s hero, overcoming rising star Matt Stringer on his way to a hat trick. Phil was supported with two wins from Tony Coeshall; whilst Matt won two and Dennis Squirrell and Paul Strut one each for the visitors.  Basildon Hospital kept in touch with a 7 – 2 home win over Wakering. Kevin Smart was man of the match with a maximum. Mike Smith also won all his games, whilst Wakering’s Stewart Mills and Cliff Noakes got one win each.  Rawreth G upset Warehouse C’s apple cart by recording a 7 – 2 away victory. James McDowell was unbeaten and two apiece from Andy Deadman and Aaron Crisp gave his side a fine win.  Biggest win of the week went to Canvey C who won 8 – 1 away at Hullbridge F. The home side’s Joanne Hills got their only win, but Geoff Banthorpe and Lee McGonagle were too strong on the night and walked away with three wins each.  Paul Ogden was again Hullbridge E’s saviour, recording an unbeaten evening at home to RESSC. Paul was assisted by Bob Singleton-Smith’s two. Gordon Swann scored two victories for the visitors.  Hockley B bounced back from their defeat at Runnymede with a comfortable 7 – 2 home win over Warehouse D. Matt Stringer’s maximum qualified him for yet another deserved player of the match award. Paul Strut and Neal Klyman chipped in with two wins each. Tamas Meza gained both Warehouse’s points    David

DIVISION 3 - DRS Paul Strutt                        paulstrut@tiscali.co.uk

Very little to report on so far, no results having come in from this week’s games other than a 9-0 walkover for Canvey D against Customs B, whose injury/availability problems continue.  In a result from the previous week Canvey D earned a 6-3 win against Hockley E thanks to a Ray Baker hat-trick, a brace from Simon Baker and one from William Ellis. They were just too strong for an inexperienced Hockley side for whom young Sean Miller won 2 and Roger Sherman 1. Ben Cook just missed out on a win losing in 5 sets to Ray Baker 11-7 in the fifth. Canvey move to 5th in the table   Paul
