Morning all,
Tonight's Southend Table Tennis Finals, promise to produce some exciting Matches: do join us.
Venue: Hullbridge Sports Association, Lower Road, Hullbridge, | SS5 6BJ Commencing 6.30 pm (Free entry) |
The 1st event tonight is the Under 21s Semi’s, which feature Premier players Kiernan Skeggs, Ben Matthews and Sid Dorn and fast improving 1st Division’s Adam Deadman; all have improved steadily during the current Season: on paper it looks like it’s between Keiran & Ben: however Sid played very well over the Weekend, with a superb victory over highly ranked Richard Brown, so Sid is well in the running: Adam is also improving all the time: an excellent Semi Final line up.
The Men’s Semi’s feature 4 former Southend Men’s Singles Champions:-
Tony Halling 2004;
Kevin Caldon 2010 & 2012;
Alex Abbott 2011 and
Kevin Read 2013:
Kevin Caldon, Tony Halling & Kevin Read are all undefeated in the League this Season, having not, as yet, played each other: Alex suffered just 3 defeats and will want to avenge losses to both Tony Halling and Kevin Read: like last year’s Men’s Singles Final; it’s very open.
The Ladies Singles Final sees a first appearance of former England Junior International, Maxine Abbott, playing 4 times Southend Ladies Singles Champion and England Over 50s International, Lin Attridge: both are teammates for 1st Division Hullbridge C and again, this Final could go either way.
The Vet’s Final sees a welcome return to our Finals Night for Steve Tilson, the 1983 Southend Men’s Singles Champion and former Essex Closed Champion and England ranked Junior, playing Kevin Caldon; Kevin will start favourite. But Steve has lost only once in the Premier Div. this Season to Alex Abbott; a defeat Steve avenged in the Vets Semi’s: so Steve can’t be ruled out.
The Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Finals, complete the line up tonight, with 2 well balanced finals. The Men’s sees yet another Final appearance for Kevin Caldon, plus appearances from Premier players: Richard Brown, Charles Sweeny, Tony Halling, Emily Godfrey and Charlie
Bates.
A great evening in store, so don’t miss it.
