Premier Division

Two derbies to report from this week, the first saw an Alex Abbott hat-trick which was still not enough to stop league leaders Thorpe Bay A narrowly slipping to the first defeat of the season to their B team. Two wins each for Gurjit Bhambra and Richard Stubbington and one from Kieran Skeggs provided the points for Thorpe Bay B. Elsewhere a hat-trick from Keith Phillips turned his match in favour of the Rawreth B side. Ben Warner with two wins the best return for the Rawreth C team. Rayleigh Mill recorded a good 8-1 win over Castle Point A with three wins a piece for Steve Sawyer and Steve Maltby.

Division 2

The improving youngsters of Hullbridge F had a great night winning 5 – 4 over Runnymede B and lifting their team away from the bottom of the table.

In the second versus third match, Warehouse C entertained Hockley B. Hockley ran out 5 – 4 winners thanks to another unbeaten night from Tony Vassallo. Tony was supported with singles from both Paul Strutt and Neal Klyman, whilst Warehouse’s Darren Launder did well to win two.

A close contest between Castle Point B and Rawreth D saw the home team eventual winners 5 – 4, thanks to an unbeaten night by Martin Roberts. Ken Filed, making a rare appearance for Rawreth won two as did Adam Hill.

Elsewhere, Basildon Hospital had a comfortable 8 – 1 win at Hullbridge E. Kieran Wood and Sid Hills each won three, whilst Tony Molisso  bagged a single win to save the home team’s blushes.

Thanks to a maximum from Richard Verrinder, Invicta A overcame Castle Point C 7 – 2. Richard was assisted with two each from Michael Piper and Barrie Murphy, whilst John Beddow won both Castle’s points.

Ron Coutts was in fine form for RESSC in their 6 – 3 home defeat of Hullbridge D. His maximum with two from Frank Hooper and one from Sarah Mapes took them to victory. Paul Ogden won two and Janet Finch one, for the visitors.

David Barnes, Divisional Results Secretary, 2nd Division

Division 3

Wakering remain top with a 6-3 win over Warehouse D this week thanks to a maximum from Cliff Noakes and two from Dave Accleton. They did not have it all their own way however thanks to two from Dave Walton for the visitors. Rawreth Juniors A had another good 6-3 win over Hullbridge G. Maximums again for Andy Deadman and Justin Jeffery giving them the points despite all the Hullbridge team chipping in with one each. Jacob Brooks for the Juniors was unlucky losing two five-setters which could have made the win more comprehensive. Finally Hockley E had a maximum 9-0 win over their F team thanks to a solid all round performance from Matt and Jason Stringer and John Jolley.
