Match Report

It is good to be back playing competitive league table tennis and especially at the Village Hall!!

Another excellent match against the Falcons including familiar "foes" Mike Dummett and Jim McIvor. On this occasion, it was a narrow defeat for Taverners by 5 sets to 4 in a match that could have gone either way.

Falcons again look favourites to win the Division 2 title as I suspect both Mike and Jim will not lose too many sets this season. However, this time it was Colin who had a very successful evening with a maximum and therefore deservedly "Player of the Match". Having comprehensively beaten Jim (Jim had played with the wrong bat!), Colin beat both Mike and Mitch B in straight games to start his season in fine form.

Martin after his maximum last week went away "empty handed" this time but not without lots of endeavour and some misfortune! Two of his sets went to 5 including a very narrow defeat to Mike 13-11 in the fifth. Martin will play worse in matches to come and win.

I managed to win the other point for Taverners beating Mitch Bellham in 5. I must stop giving my opponents a two game start! Mitch himself turned round a two game deficit to win against Martin.

An enjoyable first home match and despite the 5-4 defeat, I think a good result for Taverners.
