Match Report

Another cracking evening of table tennis at the Village Hall and a 10.30 finish to boot!

4 sets went to 5 and 3 were decided in 4; the usual pattern of our matches against the Eagles. However, as In recent matches, Eagles came out as winners (7-3) which again supported their promotion credentials.

This time Taverners can perhaps feel unlucky not to secure a draw but this is of course the beauty of table tennis!!

As for the match itself, great credit must go to Andy who had to deputise for Ed at the very very last moment but after a slow start (against me) got better and better throughout the evening to secure a well deserved maximum and Man of the Match.

Close behind for Eagles was Jim who despite appearing to play slightly below his usual standard, ground out 2 wins in 3 very tight five game sets to provide Andy with good support.

A mention too for Curtis who provided Eagles with the perfect start to the evening with a hard earned win against Colin.

For Taverners, Martin maintained his recent splendid form defeating both Jim and Curtis following on from last weeks fine performance v Brixham Pirates. Long may it continue!

Colin and myself fought hard to support Martin (3 of our sets went to 5) but just had the one success. Rarely this season have all 3 of us been successful on the same night. If only............?

An excellent evening to enjoy with good banter and this time with a sporting atmosphere from all the players.

Good luck to Eagles for the rest of the season while Taverners visit Teign School to do "battle" with the Falcons on Friday week.
