Match Report

First of all, I would like to apologise to the Torbay Academy 3 team and TTTA Club for having only 2 players available to play last night's rearranged match. It is an extremely rare occurrence for this to happen to a Taverners team over all the years we have been playing but it is still disappointing. Colin was going to play until the very last moment but his wife was so unwell yesterday evening that Colin quite rightly decided not to play and stay at home.

As for the match itself, Taverners surprisingly won 3 important points and 2 more than the last time our 2 teams played! This was solely down to Martin who I have never seen play better.

"Man of the Match" Martin completed a fine and comprehensive maximum and was rarely troubled.

It was one of those evenings when Martin was in a determined frame of mind and fully focused. His skilful use of his combination/pimples rubber bat was great to watch and this season Martin seems to be making fewer mistakes coupled with improved shot selection. Certainly all the Torbay Academy team found him difficult to handle!

I tried to support Martin as best as I could but unfortunately came away with no points. I was one point away from beating Nicola but once he won the tight third game, Nicola cruised through the last 2 games to win well in 5. However I suppose it was just good to playing again after my recent health scare!

Simon questioned at the end of the evening whether TTTA3 could win the Division 2 title but I think they are still in the mix. Availability is often the key but if Simon, Bubai and Nicola are able to play regularly and of course there is always Jakub, Esmeralda and Dave as excellent back up so for me there are still 4 teams in the quest for the Division 2 title!

An interesting night of table tennis to say the least with an earlier finish than usual!
