PRESS REPORT – Sunday 27^th Nov 2022

It was another cup week as the Handicap team doubles for the Dyment Doubles Shield ‘kicked off’ with some excellent encounters.

The first match played pitted two Torbay Academy teams together. The Academy 3 side led up until the 8^th set when Stuart Shipley and Ben Hoare representing the Academy 1 side recorded a 12 point victory to put the Academy 1 side in front. Ben Hoare was then joined by Nicholas Shipley to see out the victory, Academy 1 narrowly beating their club mates by 14 points 353-339.

NA Ospreys went behind early on in their match at Torre against the Vikings but the tide turned in the 6^th set when Mark Dulling and Rob Ferguson had an 18 point victory, Ken Ramsden then joined firstly Mark Dulling and then Rob Ferguson to see the victory through, eventually winning by 31 points.

There was a fine comfortable win for Torbay Academy 7 over fellow newcomers to the league NA Vultures 361-313.  Brixham Trawlers were well beaten by Torbay Academy (4).  NA Eagles defeated the Taverners in a close match which could have gone either way.  The closest match of the round was played out by two Newton Abbot teams. NA Raptors had just a 9 point lead going into the final set against NA Harriers which was reduced to just 4 points after the first game, but the Raptors hung on to eventually win 352-338.

Brixham Sharks, going well in both cup competitions, defeated NA Falcons 359-311 in a second round doubles encounter and are now through to the quarter finals in both cup competitions.

NA Condors struggled with the generous handicap offered clubmates NA Vultures in a delayed first round singles cup encounter. The Vultures winning 381-284.

The second round singles match played between two Torbay Academy sides saw a defeat for Academy 1 by Academy 4. Peter Moretta, Andy Harris & John Fowler using their handicap well and staying ahead of their colleagues throughout.

A number of rearranged league matches also took place during the week:

Torbay Academy 1 were too strong for NA Batmen in a division one encounter winning 8-2. Toma Mitranescu and Adam Shipway were undefeated for the Academy side who are closing in on NA Buzzards at the top of the table.

Torbay Academy 3 climbed back to the top of the third division table following their draw in Totnes against The Grove.  Andy Guy was undefeated for NA Hawks as they defeated Torbay Academy (5) 7-3.

Dawlish Renegades returned to the top of the fourth division table with a 7-3 victory over Torbay Academy 7, thanks to a maximum from Pierre Doutreligne.
