The big match at the top of the first division saw the leaders and current champions Torbay Academy 1 lose 7-3 to NA Buzzards, cutting the Academy’s lead at the top to just one point. The Buzzards’ Luke Bennett was in superb form picking up the man of the match award as he remained unbeaten in an excellent evening’s table tennis at the Academy. It will need something of a miracle to prevent the NA Batmen from taking the title this year as they have matches in hand over the top two. Jim McIvor was unbeaten for NA Eagles as they defeated the struggling Pirates from Brixham 6-4.

Marldon hit the top of the second division with a 7-3 win over NA Hawks. Helen Glover with another maximum for Marldon. NA Falcons put an end to their poor run of form with a victory against Marldon Tykes, although at 2-4 down it looked unlikely. Chris Baron headed the Falcons attack with a fine maximum and with support from Louis Wilshire and Andy Millman they picked up a 6-4 win following four consecutive defeats. Colin Harrop was unbeaten as the Taverners shared the points with Denbury Tykes. NA Kestrels picked up their first win of the season last week but sadly couldn’t follow it up as they were whitewashed by Torbay Academy 2. Ben Hoare, Lucas Bradshaw and Matt Frettsome didn’t have it all their own way though and had to work hard as several sets went to the fifth game.

As Torre Titans postponed their top of the table clash with NA Owls it was left to Torbay Academy 4 and the Hasbeens, both hovering behind the top two in Division Three, to try and close the gap. As it was they shared the points, Alan Tyrrell with another maximum for the Hasbeens. Torre Panthers continued their fine run of form with a 9-1 victory over NA Kites, both Carl Tucker and Rob Burridge were unbeaten for the Panthers.

The two teams battling it out for the fourth division title both had 7-3 victories this week. Leaders, The Grove, defeated Dawlish Diamonds thanks largely to a fine maximum from David Pearson, while a Jerry Hollings’ maximum helped Torbay Academy 6 defeat NA Ospreys. Michael Bow and Sue Upsdale were both unbeaten as their NA Vultures team defeated Torbay Academy 7, 8-2. Dawlish Dynamos star man was Laurie Girling who helped his side to a share of the points against NA Merlins.
