ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

Following the Christmas break from League fixtures, the competitive matches resumed with the first round of the Dyment Doubles Handicap matches.

Shield Holders, Torbay Academy 1, had a comfortable 5-0 win over NA Kites.  A much closer match, between 4th Division Dawlish Dodgers and 1st Division Torbay Academy 2, resulted in a 5-4 win for the Academy as Matt Cooper and Daniel Webster-Hall defeated Adrian Tee & Brian Hemmings in the deciding set.

Another Torbay Academy v Dawlish encounter saw yet another Academy win as the Academy’s 7th team defeated Dawlish Diamonds 5-3.  Brixham Trawlers had a fairly straightforward 5-1 victory over NA Owls.

In an all-Newton Abbot clash, 4th Division Ospreys defeated 3rd Division Kestrels.  Sam Hiles, Ollie Pead and Rob Ferguson combined well for the Ospreys.

The Taverners team of Geoff Read, Colin Harrop and Martin Dilkes came away from Marldon with a fine 5-2 victory in an all 2nd Division clash.

Marldon Tykes had a convincing 5-0 win at Bishopsteignton over the Hasbeens, with Steve Metcalfe, Kevin Ayling and Chris Garner on form for the Tykes.

The NA Eagles team of Jim McIvor, Andy Tyrrell and Louis Wilshire got the better of a resilient Dawlish Drifters side, 5-2.

Two rearranged League matches also took place: Denbury Tykes extended their lead at the top of the 3rd Division with a 9-1 win at Torre over the Tigers. Paul Hine and Huw Darch took maximums, as Steve Tucker prevented the whitewash, picking up the Tigers’ point.

In an all-Brixham 1st Division clash, the Sharks came from behind to narrowly clinch a 6-4 victory with a final doubles win over the Gulls. Adam Shipway was again unbeaten for the Sharks, whilst Mark Smith picked up a couple of singles wins for the Gulls.
