ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

Torbay Academy 1’s 6-4 victory over Dawlish Aces was enough to clinch the First Division title. With just one game to go the Academy side of Kris Piwowar, Patrik Cincala, Greg Wojtowicz, Dan Barnett & Paul Myatt have gone through the season unbeaten, winning 18 matches and drawing 2. The Academy’s skipper, Kris Piwowar, also tops the individual averages losing just the 1 set of 51 played, an average of 98%, and Patrik Cincala not far behind with an average of 87%. In an all-Brixham encounter, the Sharks defeated the Gulls 9-1, with Gordon Holmes and Adam Shipway taking maximums for the Sharks, who sit in second place in the table.

Champions Div 1 – Torbay Academy 1, Patrik Cincala, Dan Barnett & Kris Piwowar

Similarly in Division Two, Torbay Academy 3’s 6-4 victory over Taverners gives them an unassailable lead in a very tough and competitive Second Division. The Academy squad of Dan Webster-Hall, Michael Hernandez, and Herbie and Curtis Sage, have been battling with NA Eagles all season for the top spot; the two teams are level on points at the top, but the Eagles have completed their fixtures, and having won less matches, have to concede victory to the Academy who still have one match to play. Herbie Sage with his 13th maximum of the season against Taverners, sits at the top of the 2nd Division averages with 96%, closely followed by his teammates Daniel Webster-Hall in 2nd place with 88% and Michael Hernandez in 3rd with 83%.  NA Eagles beat Marldon Tykes 7-3 in their final match, with Ed Crawford and Jim McIvor unbeaten, but that was not enough to push the Academy to their last match of the season.  Marldon picked up three valuable points in their fight against relegation thanks to a Helen Glover maximum in a 3-7 defeat to the Battlers.

Champions Div 2 – Torbay Academy 3, Dan Webster-Hall, Herbie Sage, Michael Hernandez & Curtis Sage

A Jakub Piwowar maximum for Torbay Academy 4 was not quite enough to prevent NA Hawks sealing the 3rd Division title. The fast-improving youngsters from the Academy needed to win 8-2 to lift the title and they very nearly got there, winning 7-3. Doug Morgan won two and David Doxsey got the all important 3rd set for the Hawks. So the Hawks take the title by one point over Torbay Academy 4.  Dawlish Diamonds’ Martin Charlesworth maximum was the difference In a vital match between the two bottom teams; Dawlish Diamonds 7-3 victory at Bishopsteignton over the Hasbeens mean the Hasbeens are left at the foot of the table facing relegation to the Fourth Division.   The NA Falcons’ Robert Williams saved his best for the end of the season, however his maximum was not enough to defeat the Denbury Tykes as the Falcons went down 3-7.
