ALBANY FLORISTS-SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

Kris Piwowar & Patrik Cincala were unbeaten as current Division One leaders, Torbay Academy 1 saw off their closest challengers NA Batmen, 8-2.  The NA Buzzards narrowly defeated Torbay Academy 2, 6-4, thanks to another Jon Cheung maximum.  The result of the week, however was last season’s whipping boys, Halwell’s victory over Brixham Pirates. Rod Sugden, Mick Atkinson & Dave Wadling were on fire as they secured all 10 points in a whitewash victory over the Pirates.

NA Buzzards – Kevin Nicholls, Sonja Ryland, Jon Cheung

The Second Division is going to be very competitive again this season. Two Szymon Furgol maximums in a week have helped Torbay Academy 3 to the top of the table, firstly in a narrow 6-4 victory over NA Eagles and then alongside a Jakub Piwowar maximum, as the Academy side defeated Battlers 7-3. Brixham Seals sit just a point behind the Academy following another unbeaten effort from Stuart Shipley as they defeated clubmates, Trawlers 7-3. NA Falcons, with both David Davies and Giles Tushingham gaining maximums in an 8-2 win over Taverners, ensure just 2 points separate the top 3 teams. A Doug Morgan maximum helped promoted NA Hawks to a 6-4 victory over Torbay Academy 4. In a titanic match at Marldon, Battlers came out winners 8-2 but they had to work for it as 8 of the 10 sets went to a deciding 5th game, with no sets being won 3 straight. Peter Nicholson took a maximum for the Battlers.
