In view of the recent disclosures by footballers Table Tennis England would like to acknowledge their bravery in making their statements and feel, under the circumstances, it is appropriate to make the following statement about our commitment to safeguarding in our sport.

Table Tennis England is committed to working with all its members and staff to create a safe and positive environment where young people and vulnerable adults can participate in our sport in the knowledge that their welfare is our paramount importance.

In order to safeguard the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults Table Tennis England takes its responsibilities very seriously and works with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) and the NSPCC to ensure we have in place robust policies and procedures that deal with safeguarding.  We would confirm the following:

  • We have in place a coach licence scheme, which requires an up to date DBS and Safeguarding training to be in place. we also publish a list of all licenced coaches whose credentials are up to date – you can find this here
  • All of our policies and procedures are reviewed on a regular basis and published on our website.
  • Our staff continue to work closely with all our clubs and leagues to promote good practice when working with young people and vulnerable adults.
  • We have in place a Case Management Group who manage all reported concerns.
  • Part of our Premier Club affiliation process is to adopt Table Tennis England’s Safeguarding Guidelines and to recruit a Welfare Officer.
  • Table Tennis England employ a Safeguarding Manager who is there to advise, support, educate and manage cases where needed.

If anyone has any concerns or would like further advice on any safeguarding issues please contact the Table Tennis England Safeguarding Manager on 07507 860034or the NSPCC  Adult helpline on 0808 800 5000 or Childline for young people on 0800 1111
