ALBANY FLORIST SPONSORED SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

The two unbeaten teams at the top of the first division, NA Batmen and Torbay Academy 1, went head to head and a cracking, top quality match resulted.  The Academy’s Kris Piwowar, just a level above the other 5 players involved, was the deciding factor as he won his 3 sets, all the other games could have gone either way. NA Batmens’ Shaun Gibbs picked up 2 sets with all the other players winning one each. Father and son Gibbs had a chance to claim the draw in the last doubles, but Piwowar, joined by Cincala, stayed strong to win the final doubles and the match 6-4. Third- placed Brixham Sharks had Gordon Holmes in top form as they brushed aside N A Buzzards 7-3.  Brixham Gulls’ Mick Mercer was undefeated in the clash between the bottom two sides, but it was not enough for victory as Halwell picked up their first points of the season in a 5-5 draw.  Dawlish Aces’ fine 8-2 victory over Torbay Academy 2 featured a fine maximum from Gergely Kiss.

Torbay Academy 1 – Patrik Cincala, Dan Barnett, Kris Piwowar

Torbay Academy 3’s whitewash victory over basement side Marldon Tykes takes them to the top of the Second Division. Herbie Sage keeps his 100% start to the season for the Academy and he was well supported by Michael Hernandez & Dan Webster-Hall.  NA Eagles in 2nd place, just 2 points behind, came away from Battlers with a fine 7-3 victory thanks to another Andy Tyrrell maximum.  Brixham Imports, with Ian Saxby to the fore, beat Marldon 7-3 while Brixham Pirates were seeing off Taverners 8-2, thanks to maximums from the Shipley twins Nick and Stuart.

NA Hawks remain top of the Third division, but only just, as 2nd place Torbay Academy 4 had a whitewash victory over bottom side Hasbeens.  Academy youngsters, Elsa Perry, Jakub Piwowar and Ben Hoare were too strong for the ageing Hasbeens.  The Brixham teams in the Third division are also going well as the Diamonds from Brixham, Chris Meah, Joe Holmes & Keith Williams  whitewashed the Diamonds from Dawlish, and the Brixham Dolphins defeated NA Falcons 9-1, with Brian Pengelly & Bradley Hilton unbeaten for the Dolphins.

Torbay Academy 5 head the Fourth Division, following an 8-2 win over their Academy 6 side, and Harrison Grainger gained a maximum for the 5 side. Hot on their heels following a 10-0 win over Brixham Swifts, are NA Ospreys, Dale Fabian, Jeremy Beck and Rob Ferguson.  Despite a fine maximum from Dawlish Drifter’s Ian Gurmin, NA Kites kept up their winning start to the season with a 7-3 victory over the Drifters.  Rob Bayliss, of NA Owls, also won all 3 but saw his side defeated 7-3 by Torres R Us.  However the Owls bounced back in a rearranged match to end stablemates Kites’ unbeaten record with a fine 6-4 victory over the Kites, thanks to a maximum from Travis Graham.
