Summer league report 7th May 2019

With five wins from six contests, Steve Charles has opened his account for the Tapton Hill side in Division Three of the summer league. In week one, Terry Gallagher took a treble adding to Steve’s brace in a 6-4 win over Phil’s Pumas. Charles then travelled to Stannington Community centre, the new home of Wadsley Bridge ‘B’ and came up trumps with a maximum, which included an epic battle against Jan Macierewicz which ended 12-10 in the decider. In addition, Charles partnered Joe Barker to victory in the doubles as the visitors ran out 7-3 winners. Barker ended with a brace and Trevor Parsons repeated the feat for the hosts.

Phil’s Pumas fared better at home to Hallam Grange ‘C’ when Jack Smith, Adam Finch and Emma Ryalls all won two sets in a 6-4 win. However, Nigel Repper took the plaudits for the visitors as he went unbeaten and teamed up with John Skinner to take the doubles 3-1.

Grant Kennedy produced an undefeated Division Three performance for Redtooth ‘E’ during a drawn encounter with Wadsley ‘B’ at Attercliffe. He despatched Stephen Lee and Connor and Trevor Parsons with ease, then alongside Graham Daly claimed the doubles. Lee and Trevor responded for the visitors with two wins each.

On Friday 17th May, Martin Green will present prizes at the league’s annual awards night, to be held at the Farm Road sports and social club at 7:30pm. The Sheffield United vice president will also be a recipient as he was part of the unbeaten title winning Redtooth ‘F’ side which took the Division Four crown last month.
