Good signs for the future
With Sam Lowe’s entry form not reaching the tournament organiser it was left to Mia Longman and Jack Louth as Scarborough’s sole representatives. 9 year old Mia was playing in the under 11 girl’s event. In a group of four she faced two highly ranked England players. She lost 3-0 to the England number two (under 10) with her opponents serves being decisive. Mia then played the England number 5 (under 10) and she very nearly won only losing 3-2 in a close fifth set. Mia won her final match 3-1 and so secured third place. In the under 13 girl’s Mia didn’t win a match, but she came very close. She lost one match 3-2 and led the England number 29 (under 13) and played well despite ultimately losing. As Mia has only played in a handful of tournaments she played very well and promises much for the future. Jack Louth played in the under 15 boys and the under 13’s. He played some good matches although he only eventually won one match. In the under 13’s he had two matches that he lost after going to five sets. Jack can count himself unlucky not to come out on top in either of those matches as he was very close. The next time Jack is due to be in action will be at the Bishop Auckland 2 star on the 6th May. Meanwhile Moke Warburton, Sam Lowe and Mia Longman will be competing in the National Schools finals in Wolverhampton on the 21st April before also going to Bishop Auckland. Good luck to all the players.
