Sam wins first under 13’s Title
Sam Lowe and Jack Louth made the trip to Halifax to compete in the Cadets and under 13 boys singles. The morning event was the Cadets (U15). Both boys had tough groups as they were in the age group above. Sam had a very close first match losing in five to a higher ranked player. They both ended up not qualifying for the main event, despite Sam winning two of his matches. In the plate event Sam suffered an unexpected defeat to Luke Mitchell of Bishop Auckland, but Jack beat the same player in a close fifth set to register his first win of the day. Sam later beat Jack, but just missed out on the final.
In the under 13’s both boys played better than in the morning. Sam won two of his group matches and lost the third one 3-2 to Jake Grayson, but he qualified for the main event. Jack won one of his group matches and went into the plate. In the final group Sam had a great win over England number 30 Rayhan Khan dominating him with some particularly impressive backhands. He added a revenge win over Mitchell, while Khan beat Grayson meaning Sam won the event on countback. Jack fought hard for another win in the plate group meaning he ended as runner-up to winner Theo Kelly. Both Scarborough players had an enjoyable day with lots of matches played. Sam won 8 lost 4, Jack won 3 lost 8. Well done boys.
