Bombers V Springwell (handicap cup quarterfinal)

A pulsating game between one of the top teams from Division 1 against one of the top teams from Division 2. Springwell travelled with regulars John Williamson, Phil Prady and Rod Roberts and Bombers had the usual youngsters of Dan Hutchinson Max Duffin with Ian McPherson.

The match went 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 leaving the final game the decider and this one went right down to the last end with the experience of John overcoming the exciting attacking play for Dan to give Springwell the game and progression to the semis.

Eagles v St Gabriels E

Eagles had two regulars missing for this trip and put joining Jack Pugh were “lucky “ Peter Whitfield and newcomer Ross Clenell in only his second league match against the very experienced St Gabriels team of  Dave Aldridge, Mike Hampshire and Derek Buller. A remarkable game had all singles taking only three ends with the doubles the most competitive with Mike and Dave triumphing over Jack and Peter in the final end after being 1-5 down in the final end. “Lucky” took all his singles to give him MVP. Jack Pugh had an off night but still put up a good show to get one match and Ross put up a tremendous show showing that he has got all the shots and only needs a little consistency to go with his game but was unfortunate in not winning a match leaving St Gabriels with the honours 6-4.

Desperadoes V Brandon Crocodiles

Desperadoes put up a tremendous show against an experimental side form Brandon who are trying to blood as many players as possible to give then experience for the forthcoming Summer league. Kevin Richardson was joined by Dennis Jennings and Michael Lishman against the fast improving Ian Crumpson and two youngsters who have just started playing league matches , Will Lindsay and Louis Davies. Desperadoes won all their games but not easily and struggled on occasions on a Brandon team who will soon become a force to be reckoned with but went down 10-0.

Club Meeting Tuesday 080316

Adult fees at club sessions to be raised to £3 with immediate effect

Both match play venues(Kimblesworth and Freemans Quay) to be cancelled as soon as all competitive games completed

Decision on using only one venue to be taken at AGM

Max Duffin is through the quarter finals of the handicap cup and plays Neil Wiikinson from East Boldon at Sandhill Centre on Friday evening, best of luck to him.
