Aces v West A

A tight game between regulars Jon Mawson, Duncan Fraser and Ian McAllister of Aces against West’s Bernie Morris, Ken Lee and talented youngster Adam Webster. Adam Webster Took MVP as he only dropped one end to Jon in his three singles’ wins. Duncan beat both Bernie and Ken to take 2 games but each of the others took a game which meant the doubles would decide the overall result. A cracking match that went to 5 ends with Ian and Jon going 2 up but Ken and Bernie came back strongly to even up at 2-2. The fifth end went to 10-10 before Bernie uncharacteristically missed two drives to give Aces a 3-2 win and the game ended 5-5.

Comets v St Gabriels C

Comets drafted in Terry Charlton to join Colin and Kevin the first return match of the season. St Gabriel’s B turned up with Steve and Geoff Young and Mark Burton. 4 players ended up with 2 games each. There were 4 x 5 enders and 3 x 4 enders to show how close the game was. However with Kevin and Colin taking 2 and Terry taking 1 and Kevin and Colin taking the doubles against Steve and Geoff in 5 ends , Comets took a well deserved 6-4 victory

Eagles v Redby C

Jack Pugh, Becca Harrison and Ross Clennell travelled to play the Franko family at Redby who turned out Istvan, Andrea and Bence in a tight game that could have gone either way. Istvan got off to a good start beating Ross but Jack came back and beat Andrea. Becca and Bence had a tremendous match with both players taking every opportunity to attack but Bence’s excellent serve and drive proved decisive in the end. Ross beat Andrea over 4 ends before the titanic struggle in the doubles which saw the game right to the wire as Jack and Ross played a tactical game to keep the ball on the table but eventually Istvan and Bence proved just too strong to take it. Istvan beat Becca and Jack beat Bence and with Becca beating Andrea the game was tied at 4-4. However Bences’s driving play against Ross and Istvan’s dogged defence wore down Jack so that Redby took the final two games to come away with a 6-4 victory in a match played in a great spirit with true sportsmanship demonstrated by both teams.
