Handicap Cup Final.

Bombers v Lanchester A

What a terrific game this was, giving the handicappers a real thumbs up in their player values with the match going one way and then the other and lasting the whole 9 games.

The first game was Lee Maher for Bombers against the fast left hander Thaquib Saleem which Lee took the first end convincingly but Thaquib played more composed in the second end to take it 22-20. The third end was equally as close but Lee closed it out to give the Sacriston team the advantage.

The second game was a corker between Lanchester’s number 1, Davy McAllister and Young Dan Hutchinson with both players attacking at every opportunity. The ends could not have been closer with Davy pulling through 21-19 in both ends to even the match. Dan Nicholson struggled against the handicap of Liam Ord and lost to the Lanchester player in two ends. The next game was between two of the league’s most attacking players, young Dan Hutchinson and  Thaquib with both players trying to start the attacking fore hand as soon as possible. The game went to all three ends with Dan pulling through to even the match at 2-2. Lee was then playing Liam off scratch and it took all three ends before he broke through Liam’s resolute defense. Dan Nicholson was next up against Davy and off scratch couldn’t compete with Dave’s power and attacking flair and the match was back to 3-3. Young Dan found Liam’s handicap tough to break down and he had to work hard to take this game in 2 ends. Thaquib never looked threatened by Dan Nicholson which left the match at 4-4 with the final game between Lee Maher and Davy McAllister. The match looked over for the Bombers with Dave winning the first end 23-21 but Lee started playing more consistently and away from Davy’s fore hand onto his back hand and getting a good start in each of the last two ends ran out convincingly 21-11 in both the give Lee the game, and the Bombers the match, and the cup. Well done to both teams for a magnificent entertaining and exciting game played in a competitive but true sporting manner.
