St Johns B v Chargers

Unfortunately St Johns could only turn out 2 players for this fixture but they were the very talented Robert Renton and the attacking Chris Wold. The Chargers travelled with Anna Kiwitt, Peter Whitfield and Barry Dingwall. With the Chargers already 3-0 but against the most consistent player in the league Robert who was expected to win his three matches,  the result was going to depend on the games against Chris and the doubles. Robert confirmed his ability by winning all his singles in three ends, even though he was pushed in some of his games by all the Chargers players. Barry was unlucky in his game against Chris losing the first two ends, but improved as the game went on  winning the  3rd end and taking the fourth end 13-11 before losing out. Both Anna and Peter beat Chris over 3 ends which left the doubles as the decider for the bulk of the points. Peter and Anna played the tactical game of making sure the ball stayed on the table and this proved invaluable allowing them to win 3-1 to give Chargers 3 points in a 6-4 win.

Desperadoes v St Johns C

Desperadoes have really improved as the season has gone on and this game showed how far they have come. St Johns with Viv Ford, Derek Buller and David Aldridge were up against Max Duffin, Jack Pugh and Aidan McKie. Max Duffin was the player of the night taking all his singles games and combining with Aidan took the doubles as well and with Aidan winning one of his matches Desperadoes ended up with a creditable 5-5 draw.

Bombers v Redby B

Ian McPherson, Dan Hutchinson and Nigel Coe put up a tremendous show against the experienced team of Redby with Joe Muldowney, Howard Foster and Allan Girdwood. The Bombers took all four points available winning 8-2 with only Joe Muldowney taking two singles games from the Bombers, All the rest went to the Bombers with Ian and Dan combining to take the doubles. Points were important to take the Bombers away from the relegation zone.

Chargers v Lanchester

Lanchester have been one of the surprise teams in the division with good results against top sides so Chargers were expecting a difficult time. The team of Anna Kiwitt, Peter Whitfield and Paul Henderson were up against the very good John Cook, the talented Francis Guthrie and the runner up in the Junior girls competition at both the Sunderland and the Northumberland Championships, Lauren Cook. Paul Henderson is still developing his skills and struggled to convert some of the longer rallies into points and failed to win any games, but both Anna Kiwitt and Peter Whitfield performed well to take two singles each, only going down to the Player of the night John Cook who won all his singles games in three ends. The decider for points split was the doubles and although Peter and Anna lost the first end they played tactical ‘keep the ball on the table’ with no attacking shots and took the next three ends to win 3-1 leaving the game tied at 5-5 with equal division of points. A good end to the season for the Chargers
