Club Report 231114
The first members of the club to gain the Junior Umpire Certificate were given their awards at the Satellite club session on Monday. Both Jack Pugh and Oliver Turnbull completed their practical part of the assessment at their game for Eagles against Desperadoes where they scored each other and other players. The written test was carried out at the Framwellgate Moor session. Congratulations to the pair of them.
Brandon B V Desperadoes
Desperadoes are picking up points very well at the moment and this was another case where their team was too strong for the opposition. With father and son Nigel and Sam Duffin and John Reid against Paul Henderson, Lynn Reilly and Becca Harrison, the match went the way of Desperadoes with all of them winning their singles and also taking the doubles giving them 4 points in a 10-0 win.
Eagles v Lanchester A This was always going to be a tough fixture for Eagles against the top team in the division. Jack Pugh and Oliver Turnbull were joined by Haydn Williamson against top of the Div 3 averages Davey McAllister the dynamic County Junior Thaqib Saleem and fast attacking Liam Ord. Some games came close but Lanchester were too strong and came away with all games to give them the 4 points.
Bombers v Redby B
Bombers have had games postponed and are languishing mid table and need some good results to move up the table. With Lee Maher making his home debut he joined Dan Hutchinson and Ian McPherson for Bombers against the veteran players of Redby B, Howard Forster, Ian Wilson and Ron Douglas. Most games were only 3or 4 points apart but Bombers triumphed taking them all to win 10 – 0, giving them all 4 points.
East Boldon B v Chargers
A terrific game played in a really friendly yet competitive spirit between Chargers with Max Duffin, Terry Charlton and Peter Whitfield against William Walton, Peter Smallcombe and Jim Collar(who was making his debut for East Boldon B). Most games went to form with the spirit of the games being really excellent , but the match of the night was between two of the most talented youngsters that the Sunderland league has offer, Peter for East Boldon and Max for Chargers. These two who are teammates for the Bishop Auckland club cadet team played superb table tennis showing their full range of all the different styles and strokes. Both players played conservatively to start, with one rally going 35 strokes before the winning shot was selected. But when the game exploded into action, play at all other tables stopped to watch some of the most attractive attacking play it is possible to see. All games were close with Max taking the first game, Peter the second and third, and Max the fourth. Peter eventually closed the final end by making his back hand drives work to good effect and winning 11-8 to win 3-2 in ends. This gave Peter Smallcombe player of the Match in his drive to winning all his singles but Chargers won the game overall 7-3 to take 3 valuable points.
Aces v Thompson A
This was a table topping affair between 1st and 2nd in the league. Aces had their usual squad of 4 and picked Waldemar Dzwonski, Ian McAllister and Duncan Fraser, but Thompson taking the game very seriously reduced their normal starting thee to viewing from the sidelines, and played another regular, Darren McVitie with debutants Anthony who played 2 games for Thompson last season and Graham Barella who hasn’t played in the last two years for them. These players will prove real exciting additions to the league. The game went the way of form with Thompson taking it 8-2 with Anthony Barella taking player of the match. Waldemar played well to take two games, but was beaten by Anthony in his final game. We look forward to seeing these players in the league again(probably March 19th unless the league is decided by then).
