Chargers v St Gabriels E

With a decimated week of fixtures because of half term Chargers needed to take advantage and required all 4 points to keep the pressure on the top teams. With Max Duffin being unavailable Terry Charlton joined Peter Whitfield and Dennis Jennings to take on Viv Ford, Derek Buller and Mike Hampshire for St Gabriels E. The scores did not reflect the competitiveness of the games and St Gabriels can consider them unlucky not to come away with any points. In the very first game Peter was really lucky to beat Derek who played his defensive high lob game to perfection but was only beaten by the tenacity of Peter to chase every ball down and keep returning the ball moving Derek around the table until he was out of position. Terrys game against Mike was another game where Mike played lovely attacking table tennis but found Terry unpassable in defence. Dennis’s game against Viv was very similar with Dennis relying on Viv to lose patience and go for the smash at the wrong time. The only winner for St Gabriels was Derek and with Terry being player of the match in winning his singles and the doubles with Dennis, and with Peter winning 3 the game ran out 9-1 to Chargers.

Desperadoes v Lanchester A

This was going to be a really tough game for Desperadoes against unbeaten league leaders Lanchester who had unbeaten Dave McAllister, Durham County Junior Thaqib Saleem, and fast attacking Liam Ord. John Reid and Jack Preston were joined by newcomer Matt Greenwood in his first competitive game. The games went the way of Lanchester but some notable performances were made by Matt who took an end off Liam and pressed him all the way and also Jack Preston who took Davey Mcallister all the way in one end and won it 17-15. However Lanchester won 10-0 with Thaqib taking player of the match winning all his games in three and the doubles with Liam Ord.

Important funding has been attracted.

The Sir James Knott Trust  has funded the Club to the tune of £1000, we are extremely grateful and are going to use the money to upgrade the clubs facilities and to aid junior development. The club is purchasing 6 scoring machines so that we can put the Juniors through the Junior Umpire Award and also to use the machines for league games. New barriers are being purchased to help control the spread of table tennis balls in club sessions and games. New nets are being purchased to use at Satellite sessions at Framwellgate Moor and the fund are also going to be used towards members wishing to take their Coaching or other qualifications. The first person to benefit from this is Dan Hutchinson who has started his UKCC Level 1 Coaching award.

Terrific performance at Cramlington 2 star

Max Duffin was competing at his first 2 star competition and put up a terrific display reaching the quarter finals and going down to the eventual winner Joe Cope in 3 games with 2 of the games going to deuce. Great stuff Max!
