Lanchester B v Eagles

More talented youngsters from both teams playing the type of table tennis that is exciting and a joy to watch. Lanchester had youngsters Adam Butler, Francis Guthrie and Tom Firth against Oliver King and Jack Pugh and the more mature Barry Dingwall. John Cook guested in the doubles to ensure Lanchester took the doubles. Francis Guthrie took player of the match by winning all singles, Adam Butler for Lanchester won 2 and with Jack Pugh winning 2 for Sacriston and Oliver King winning 1 the Eagles went down 7-3 but gained a valuable league point in the process.

Chargers V Lanchester.

Lanchester turned up with their unbeaten team of Davey McAllister,  lightning fast Thaqib Saleem recently selected for the Durham County Junior squad, and rapidly improving Liam Ord. Chargers had the usual Max Duffin, Paul Salkeld but Terry Charlton had been drafted in to take the third spot. Davey McAllister is probably going to top the averages in this division and it showed as he won all his games in three ends and with Thaqib took the doubles. However Max Duffin proved a real star for Chargers by beating both Thaqib and Liam and with Terry beating Liam, Chargers came away with a valuable point in their search for promotion in a 7-3 defeat.

Sainsbury school games

Providing 3 of the 4 Framwellgate Moor team for the Sainsburys Schools games Sacriston Table Tennis Club were well represented at the Durham Regional event. Oliver King, Max Duffin and Oliver Turnbull from Sacriston were joined by equally talented Jack Jacomb from the Bishop Auckland Club in a competition involving 6 teams . Fram were pooled against Park View B and Durham Johnson A in the first round and with each player playing two games, they came away with two 8-0 wins making them leaders to go in the final against Belmont. The sheer experience and skill of the Fram players told as they took the final 7-1 and will move into the next stage of the competition later this school year.

As a note Haydn Williamson from the club was also in the competition and although winning most of his games his team mates did not back him up enough and they ended up 5th overall.

Desperadoes v east Boldon B

Desperadoes had debutant San Duffin joining his father Nigel and John Reid for this game against the East Boldon team of Peter Smallcombe, William Walton and Bruce Davison. With three games going to 5 ends and 4 to 4 ends this game was certainly competitive but the very talented Junior Peter Smallcombe took man of the match being unbeaten in his singles and taking the doubles with partner Bruce Davison. Nigel Duffin showed his son his skills by taking two singles games and with Sam and John taking one each the result was 6-4 to East Boldon giving east Boldon 3 points with  1 point going to  the Desperadoes .

 

Sonic V Draw      Newcomers to the league Draw had a good night at Freemans Quay and came away with a 7-3 win against the youngsters of Sonics. Niall O Brien, Chris Jennings and Joel England worked hard in every game and made the visitors suffer on the way to the victory. Joel and Chris beat Ken, and Niall and Chris combined well in the doubles playing tactical ”get the back on the table” to take the doubles.
