Club Report 031113

Important news, there is no session at Fyndoune on Friday night November 8th. The session is cancelled for this week.

Aces v St Chads. This was a really tight match with a lot of matches going the full distance but in the end the Aces represented by Ian McAllister, Jon Mawson and Duncan Fraser could only manage one point, with Duncan Fraser winning two games and Ian McAllister winning one. Player of the match Joshua Weatherby won three for St Chads and also contributed to the doubles Result 3-7

Bombers v Silksworth. The return of Lee Maher provided a boost for the Bombers, and with Nigel Coe and Ian McPherson the honours were split 5-5. Bob Sanderson proved unbeatable for Silksworth but with Ian McPherson  winning two, Lee and Nigel one each and Ian and Lee winning the doubles each team ended with 2 points.

Chargers v Lanchester. The Power of Lanchester proved too much for the Chargers team of John Reid, Paul Henderson and Anna Kiwitt, especially with the Experienced John Cook playing and winning all his games convincingly. The big surprise was the debut of Anna Kiwitt for Chargers, who shocked Joe Hume and took an immediate 2-0 lead which Joe responded by taking the next two games to leave the match balanced on the final  game. This was played as the game should be played, fast and furious, and it was the power of Anna’s backhand drives that left Joe going down 3-2. The most impressive performance of the night was Sam Hume for Lanchester who was never overawed by bigger and older opponents and was  only defeated by Anna Kiwitt in the singles, but he took the doubles with John Cook over 5 games to give Lanchester all the points 8-2.

Comets v Matfen. Comets were playing in the first round of the handicap cup against Matfen but the team of Colin Pritchard, Nikki and Debbie Irwin maintained their winning streak to win 5-4 and progress to the next round.

Desperadoes v St Johns A. St Johns A with Istvan Soos , Craig Hilton and Lynda Todd are favourites to return straight back to Division 2, but were taken aback by the quality of the young Desperadoes team and had to dig deep to counter the skills of their young opposition. Aidan McKie aged 13 played very well using his blocking backhand to good effect and came close to taking a couple of games. Oliver Turnbull again 13 year old, playing attacking forehand took two games from Lynda Todd but fell away in the final game of the five. The star of the night was again Erin Harrison at 15, who pressed with her all round skills and being able to play attack or defence, and the game of the night was when she made Istvan really work  hard to take his match. The score did nor reflect the game but the St Johns team were really complimentary to the young team at the end.
