Ken Pidgeon

I heard the sad news recently that Ken Pidgeon has passed away at the age of 91. Ken had been living in a flat in Pickering and I believe that he had a bad fall a few weeks ago. He was taken to hospital with a suspected      broken hip although I am not sure whether this was confirmed. He was moved from Scarborough hospital to  Malton hospital and then York and eventually a place was found for him in a nursing home in Norton where    he died on Sunday 1st August.

Unlike many others, Ken didn't start playing table tennis until late in life after going on a beginners' course at Teesport. I doubt very much whether he was taught the unorthodox style he adopted but he came to love the game and was very difficult to beat.

Ken suffered from severe tinnitus and the slightest noise upset him. Partly to seek peace and quiet, he boughta motor home in the early 1990's and lived in it for many years before moving to the flat in Pickering.  He was a real character and will be much missed.

His funeral will be on Monday 16th August at Wakefield Crematorium at his daughter lives in Huddersfield.  I will be sending details separately by email to anyone who might wish to attend the funeral.
