Rowhedge Table tennis Club was formed in 2003, it was an amalgamation of three clubs who all lost their playing venues at the same time.

Paxmans, The Civil Club and British Gas had continued their Table Tennis by using the gym at Monkwick Sports Centre but during March/April 2003 the future of Table Tennis continuing at the Centre was brought into focus with the announcement by Colchester Borough Council that it was to close the Monkwick facility. With no firm commitment the clubs could remain at the school the search was on to find a new home for the 8 league teams based at Monkwick. The first option considered was Alderman Blaxill School, however only one night was available  Following some sterling work by club member Rik James We confirmed that Rowhedge Village Hall was free on a Monday and a Friday evening. It looked to be the answer and also gave the club scope to develop Junior Table Tennis coaching. Our decision was swift, go for both nights and start up a new junior section.  The three clubs agreed the move and also a change of name to Rowhedge Table Tennis Club.

With ten teams in the Colchester and District Table Tennis League, RTTC have become the single biggest club, varying in ability from Champions and Runners up in the top division to a cadet team in division 4 and every combination in between.

A major part of the thinking in the beginning was to get some serious coaching for all ages and abilities in to the Colchester District and having joined the ETTA (now Table Tennis England) PremierClub programme and with Table Tennis England qualified coaches on hand the Junior coaching has really taken of with our Monday class having over 25 regularly in attendance.

Under the watchful eyes of Rik James, John Andrews and Alan Burgess and with regular support from Martin Edwards the coaching has thrived with numbers ever growing and the talent and abilities improving all the time.

If you are interested in playing at RTTC coming along for a coaching session or join us as a volunteer please don’t hesitate to hit the contact button and either call, email or turn up on the night, it will be great to meet friends both old and new .
