Rougham fielded eleven of the 27 entrants for the final tournament day of the Suffolk and Cambs Junior Table Tennis League, the largest contingent from any club. The league has proved again to be a valuable introduction to tournament conditions and the improvement in play from the start of the season was most evident during this final tournament.
The three Rougham teams entered into the league were drawn mainly from the younger end of the junior membership, however in the final tournament Rougham players were able to make it to at least the semi-final of every event with our winners being:
Girls Singles: RIYA KUMAR (Rougham Panthers)
Under 13 Singles: CALLUM BARRETT (Rougham Lions)
Division 2 Singles: LEO SAIU-BELL (Rougham Rovers)
Runners up medals were awarded to Isobel McGerty in the Girls singles and U13 singles and to the team of Anna Ridsdill-Smith & Riya Kumar in the doubles. Nathan Castle and Aidan Stibbs also put in creditable performances to make it to the semi-finals of the boys singles and handicap singles respectively. Alex Bell won his first matches of the League season. Isaac Cunningham, George Hadjianastasis and Theo Castle all recorded wins in various events.
The “Player of the Season” award went to Leo Saiu-Bell who received the most nominations from his fellow players during the previous 3 days of League matches.
The club would like to thank all those club members that took part and parents for their support. Particular thanks also to John Waters for his efforts in organising the league and Tim Jolly for organising the parent refreshments!
