Scorpions A moved to top spot in the Rotherham Table Tennis League for the first time this season. The defending champions were away to Clifton B and only needed a win to move ahead of current leaders Scorpions C. The win was never in doubt as Mark Johnson, Craig Hastie and Harry Saxton all came away with maximum trebles and the A team moved to top of the League by a mere 4 sets. L.S.M. A kept up the pressure only two points adrift, with a 9-1 win over Scorpions B. James Houghton and Mick Brooks with maximums and Edmund Lau beating Mick Foster to avoid the whitewash.

Star of the week this week was Lewis Ellams who had an excellent hat-trick against club teammates Scorpions D. Lewis, playing for the E team, first of all saw off awkward defender Ali Nadzafalijevs then Dave Grayson and finally battled really hard to overcome he experience of Stuart Foers, coming from behind in the fifth game to win it 11-9. Dave Grayson didn’t manage Lewis’s success but had a moment of glory when, filling in for absent players in Division Two for the first time, he managed to beat Gary Cooper in the deciding game – a crucial win as the match score ended 5-5.

Amy Marriott continued her excellent run of form as she won her three for Scorpions J playing against Scorpions I. Sol Astle also achieved a superb hat-trick to help give the team a 7-3 win. Ben Henson, Jack Young and Daniel Heap all took a set from Harrison Turner to keep the I team on the score sheet. Scorpions K took a massive step towards the Division Three title as they saw off Phoenix E 8-2. Before this match neither team had dropped a point but Barry Tasker and Ray Jackson both won their three and Phil Richardson helped out with one win.
