Rotherham Advertiser Report Week Twelve

In an all
Phoenix battle the honours were shared as the B team of Chris Cattell, Cliff
Glaves and Joe Addy took on Phil Walton, Mick Bell and Mick Jarvis. Walton and
Jarvis got the away team off to a two nil lead but the B team then hit back
strongly with four in a row, two from Cattell and one each from the others. The
doubles went to the A team in five games, Jarvis and Bell just pipping Glaves
and Cattell 11-9 in the final game. Bell and Walton then picking off two more
wins to put the A team 5-4 up. But the lesser rated team were not going to be
defeated and Glaves rose from the ashes to beat Jarvis to share the points.

In a mid-table clash in Division
Two, despite two good wins from Andy Saxton over Gary Sides and Jill Beaumont,
Scorpions D lost 7-3 to Clifton B. Steve Lyon turned out for the first time
this season and got a hat-trick for his troubles. The loss took the sting
out of a possible Scorpions title challenge, being the higher placed team
before the match.

One of
Rotherham’s long standing table tennis clubs has been having some trouble with
their venue recently and unfortunately have had to vacate their premises. Mason
Arms T.T.C. will now be playing all their matches at the East Herringthorpe Sports
and Social Club.
