Preston Table Tennis Centre - How it came about and the impact it has had on our league

It's become easy to take our table tennis centre for granted. Excellent facilities, many tables, specialist floor and lighting. But it's not always been that way. In 2005 the Preston League moved in to the St Augustine's Centre - purpose built for table tennis with help from Sport England and some of our league members such as Kevin Winstanley and Howard Fletcher. It was driven by the Committee of the day with huge input from people like Tony Rigby and Jim Clegg. It wasn't our leagues first attempt at getting a table tennis centre and there was much hard work and disappointment along the way.  But with alternative venues in decline as employers reclaimed space originally used for sporting events and the cost of school hire rising something had to be done. This is the story of how our centre came about and the impact it's had on our league.
