As we creep towards the end of the season in 4 weeks’ time, several teams and clubs are having difficulty in having a full squad of players, as the usual winter illnesses strike, along with some injuries. Some teams are having to concede games or play with less than the full 3 player squad, but if they are middle of the table, it will probably not make any difference, except to those clubs vying for promotion or avoiding relegation, but circumstances change throughout the season and it usually evens at.
It seems to be the same situation every year as the Norton A and B teams march onwards at the top of the Premier Division, 9 points clear of the rest, followed by Bradwell A and then Crewe Post Office. Norton C picked up a usual point with their draw against Kidsgrove A, with 2 each from John Ibbs and Steve Foster, plus the doubles and this now lifts them 4 points clear of Bradwell B, who are being propped by their own C team and Kidsgrove B. Next week sees bottom teams facing those at the top, so positions are unlikely to change.
Top of the table clash in Division 1, saw Norton E going down 4-6 to MESC B. Alan McDonald and Danny Sullivan won two each, also taking the doubles, but Norton E still remain in top spot, but are now only 1 point clear of second placed MESC B. Down at the bottom, the Kidsgrove C team beat their own D team 7-3, but they are 3 points behind Fenton. Next week Fenton take on the Penkhull C team, but Kidsgrove C will have a difficult task away at MESC B on Thursday.
In Division 2, there was a setback for the MESC D team, who had high hopes of promotion, when they were held to a draw by Norton G. A maximum 3 from Nick Heath and 2 from Keith Evans for the Norton side, leaves the MESC C team in second place and 2 points ahead of the D team. Again next week matches are between the top and bottom teams, so changes are unlikely.
