After Week 10

Although the first half of the season is now over, there are still 3 weeks of matches before the holiday break. In the past few days, all the 100% records for individual averages have gone for those playing at least 50% of the matches and so have the 100% team records. The top clash this week between the Ball Green A and B teams saw a comeback for the B team, who were 5-3 up against their A team and the A team’s Paul Malkin's 100% record went with defeats by Brian Johns and Dave Savage. with two matches left, Chris Bailey, who had won both his previous 2 matches for the A team, faced Mark Evans and came out a winner, earning himself player of the match and gaining top place in the averages. Then Brian Johns took on the A team’s Neil Hough in the final match and having lost both his previous matches, Neil was under pressure against Brian and it went down to the wire. It was 11 all in the 5th set, when Neil pulled something out of the bag to grab the next two points and earn a draw. This still leaves the A team in top spot, but the B team are only 1 point behind and at 3 sets more for the A team, there is very little difference between the two teams, but the Crewe Post Office in the third spot are 4 points adrift of the Ball Green B team.

In Division 1, Ball Green E were gifted the full 10 sets when Bradwell D were unable to field a team, ensuring themselves of the second place, but then they travelled to play against the Kidsgrove B team, who at one stage were looking for promotion.  The Ball Green team were 5-4 up and Tony Stanway had already earned his place as player of the match, when John Dawson took on Cyril Merriman, who is in the top 5 of the averages. John took the first game and Cyril countered, but then John took control winning the next two games to earn his team a draw and putting a dent into the Ball Green E team’s hopes, but they are still 4 points clear of nearest rivals Penkhull C who also have a game in hand. Next week the Ball Green E team visit the divisional leaders Penkhull B and Penkhull won 6-4 last time and with a home venue they are hoping for another win.

Division 2 saw Ball Green K move into second spot after a 7-3 win over Kidsgrove E, with Graham Savage being player of the match with a maximum and earning fourth place in the averages. MESC D are still up at the top with all their squad of Joe Allen, Margaret Riley and Elliot Evans in the top 10 of the averages and 3 points clear of the Ball Green K team.
