Week 20

Youth conquers experience.

It may have been a quiet week in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League due to the half-term holidays but that doesn’t mean it was uneventful. Unison B, in the second division, played their rearranged game against Stanley Square and for the second week in a row, the incredible Sophie Newton came out with 3 wins and the MOM award to maintain her impressive 100% record for the B team. She is keeping the MOM award away from the slightly older Jacob Reilly-Cooper, who himself came away with 3 wins in the 9-1 victory. Sophie and Jacob teamed up for the doubles with Alex Darlington winning the other 2 for Unison B.

The new League Leaders, Hollinwood B won their rearranged match 7-3 against Hyde YMCA A with Kim Lee and Ped McKinstry winning 3 and 2 respectively and the doubles with George Jones picking up the other point for them.

It is proving to be the most exciting division as any three of the top three can walk away with the title and it will be a huge shame for the team that finishes 3rd as all three deserve to go up this season.

Elsewhere, in Division 1, Hollinwood A beat Coldhurst A 8-2 with the brilliant Gabrial Wilding and Ian Quinn winning 3 with Matt Shaw winning 2. The impressive team of Simon King and Simon Walsh won the doubles proving they can battle with the best of them.

Next week, full fixtures resume and it is getting down to the final few remaining fixtures. It’s exciting times in the League with the Oldham Closed Championships only a few weeks away, players will want to be in top form for when it arrives.
